Terms of Service

Effective October 9, 2026 · Last updated October 9, 2026

Surveyor runs simulations of how a household's savings might hold up through retirement. It is a planning and education tool. It is not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, its results are projections under assumptions you control, and no outcome is guaranteed. By using Surveyor you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy.

1. Who may use Surveyor

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding agreement. Surveyor is intended for individuals planning their own household's finances in the United States. You may not use it on behalf of clients as a substitute for licensed advice.

2. What Surveyor is, and is not

3. Your account

You sign in with a link or code sent to your email address; there is no password. Your account is therefore as secure as your email account. Keep that account protected, do not share sign-in links or codes, and tell us at once if you believe someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what is done through it until you do.

4. Connected financial accounts

You may link investment accounts through Plaid. When you do, you authorize Plaid to access your account at your financial institution on your behalf and to share the data described in the Privacy Policy with Surveyor, and you agree to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy. You may disconnect an account at any time on the Account Connections page. Surveyor reads data through these connections; it never initiates a payment, transfer, trade, or any other action at your institution.

5. Your data

Everything you enter or connect remains yours. You give Surveyor permission to store and process it only as needed to provide the service to you, as described in the Privacy Policy. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter; the simulation is only as good as its inputs. You can edit, reset, export, or delete your data as the Privacy Policy describes.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

If you find a security problem, please tell us at the address below rather than exploiting it. We will acknowledge a good-faith report within two business days.

7. Our content

The software, models, text, and design of Surveyor belong to its operator and are protected by copyright. We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use the service for your own planning. Published reference data (tax tables, mortality tables, cost surveys, and the like) belongs to its respective sources, which the tool cites.

8. Availability and changes

Surveyor is under active development. Features, layout, and models may change, and the service may be unavailable at times for maintenance or reasons outside our control. We aim to keep your saved plan safe through daily backups, but you should keep your own records of the figures that matter to you. We may suspend or end the service, or your access to it, for violation of these terms or if we stop operating it, with reasonable notice where practical and the chance to export your plan.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

Surveyor is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that results will be correct, that any projection will come to pass, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Surveyor and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for any loss of money, savings, benefits, profits, or data, arising from your use of or reliance on the service, even if advised of the possibility. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these limits, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.

11. Indemnity

You agree to defend and hold Surveyor's operator harmless from claims and costs arising from your violation of these terms or your misuse of the service.

12. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute not resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California. Before bringing a claim, you agree to write to us and give us 30 days to resolve it informally.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top and, for a material change, tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Surveyor after that date means you accept the new terms.
